CHAD CARLSON experienced an epiphany after college when he found a doctoral program where he could study sport with a Christian mentor. His qualifications for the program: he played every sport imaginable growing up, and when he wasn’t playing, he was coaching, officiating, or reading about them. Now he studies and teaches about sport, too. He publishes mainly on sport history and sport philosophy, and he wrote Making March Madness.
Dr. Carlson is an Associate Professor of Kinesiology and the Director of General Education at Hope College, in Holland, Michigan. He lives with his wife and two kids, and still plays soccer, racquet sports, basketball, hockey, and goes stand-up paddleboarding whenever he can.
