2019 2nd GLOBAL CONGRESS ON SPORT AND CHRISTIANITY

The 2nd Global Congress was held August 23-27, 2019 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Calvin University and Hope College co-hosted the event, and the congress was led by Brian Bolt and Chad Carlson.   There were 248 registrants representing all corners of the globe.  The format was similar to the inaugural, featuring 11 keynote speakers and 106 breakout sessions.  A highlight was the public address given by NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow.  Tim spoke to 700 local high school student athletes and was joined by congress participants and a full arena of more than 4000 ticketholders. Tebow followed up with a private Q and A session with all of the conference participants. The notable names and voices of other keynotes expanded and deepened our understanding issues surrounding issues of sport and faith and provided a context for continued collaboration and publication that continues today.

Participants enjoyed two great galas and happy hours on the Calvin University campus, and even had a chance to take in a NCAA D3 women’s volleyball match between rivals and championship levels teams Calvin and Hope. Like the first congress, the high-quality breakout sessions and subsequent discussions led to new networks, friendships, new collaborative efforts. Resources from this congress are still coming out, but below you can view several of the keynotes!
